the story of wild violet
When I was little girl in the 1980’s, I spent a lot of time with my Grandad, Onyx. He was born and grew up deep in the Mississippi woods and loved all the nature that is found there. His favorite flower was the little wild violets that grow on the red clay banks in the spring and summer. Because of his love of these flowers, they also became one of my mother’s favorites and mine as well.
When I grew up and fell in love, it just so happened (not by coincidence in my opinion) that a family name for the women in my husband’s family was Violeta, Violet in Spanish. Many women in his family including his mother, grandmother and great-grandmother share this name and in turn, it is our daughter’s middle name.
It is in honor of my Grandad and mother, my husband’s family, our daughter and all our ancestors that I named my studio Wild Violet.
