PMU Pre Care Instructions

Pre Care

You cannot be accepted for your appointment if, at the time of your appointment, you are:

  • Younger than 18 years of age

  • Pregnant or nursing

  • On antibiotics, or have taken them within the past 3–4 weeks (please wait 3–4 weeks after your final dose before booking)

  • On immunosuppressants

  • Experiencing a viral infection (cold, flu, etc.)

  • Freshly tanned or sunburned on the face

  • Within 6 months of chemotherapy or radiation

  • Have used Accutane within the past year

Before you book:

  • Stop prescription retinoids (Retin-A, tazarotene, prescription adapalene) β€” they speed up skin turnover and affect pigment retention.

  • Stop OTC retinoids and resurfacing products (retinol, glycolic/salicylic acid, exfoliants).

  • Allow at least 3 weeks between injectables (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, dermal filler) and your appointment β€” 4 weeks if the filler was near your treatment area, to allow full settling.

  • Avoid microneedling, laser/IPL, or chemical peels near the treatment area.

  • Wait 3–4 weeks after your last dose of oral antibiotics.

Weeks before:

3-4

  • Avoid facials, dermaplaning, waxing/threading, or exfoliating treatments near the treatment area.

  • No sunburn or tanning β€” arrive with healthy, undamaged skin.

  • Let us know about any relevant skin or eye conditions (keloids, PIH, eczema, rosacea, eye infections, styes, or allergic reactions) so your artist is prepared.

Weeks before:

2

  • Avoid alcohol and blood thinners β€” aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, niacin, turmeric, ginger, ginkgo biloba. These raise bleeding risk; only stop prescribed medications with your doctor's guidance.

  • Skip caffeine, intense workouts, and sweating.

  • No sedatives, stimulants, or pain relievers unless prescribed.

Hours before:

24

Day of your appointment:

  • Arrive with clean skin. Makeup is fine unless noted otherwise below β€” we'll take before/after photos.

  • WiFi is available; bring headphones, slippers, or a blanket if you'd like to get cozy.

Lip Blush appointment? Read This

Cold Sore Prevention (Required for All Lip Blush Clients): Every lip blush client must take a prescription antiviral (Zovirax, Famvir, or Valtrex) before and after their procedure, regardless of cold sore history β€” the trauma of the procedure alone can trigger a first-time outbreak. Begin 3 days before your appointment and continue 3 days after. If you get frequent outbreaks, Lip Blush can only be performed 4 weeks after your most recent one.
You cannot be accepted if you have an active cold sore or lip infection, or sunburned, cracked, or irritated lips.

5–7 Days Before: Begin gently prepping your lips: lightly exfoliate once a day (sugar scrub or soft toothbrush) and keep lips hydrated with a balm.

Day of Your Appointment: Arrive with clean lips, free of makeup, gloss, or skincare products.

Eyeliner appointment? Read This

3 Months Before: Discontinue lash growth serums (Latisse, GrandeLash) β€” these can increase vascular activity and bleeding.

7 Days Before: Lash extensions must be completely removed. Prioritize hydration β€” healthy, calm skin heals more predictably.

Day of Your Appointment: Do not wear contact lenses β€” bring glasses instead. Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin β€” no mascara, eyeliner, or lash glue residue.
