Eyeliner Care Instructions
FOLLOW THESE STEPS
Let's begin with a clean slate
Getting ready the right way helps your skin hold the pigment better, lowers the chance of problems, and makes healing easier.
Please read and follow these steps closely in the weeks before your appointment.
-
You cannot be accepted for your appointment if, at the time of your appointment, you are:
Younger than 18 years of age
Pregnant or nursing
On antibiotics, or have taken them within the past 3β4 weeks (please wait 3β4 weeks after your final dose before booking)
On immunosuppressants
Experiencing a viral infection (cold, flu, etc.)
Freshly tanned or sunburned on the face
Within 6 months of chemotherapy or radiation
Have used Accutane within the past year
Also worth knowing before you book:
Lash Extensions must be completely removed prior to your appointment.
If you arrive with inflamed, sunburned, damaged, or compromised skin, your artist may need to reschedule your appointment for safety and the best results.
If you're planning to travel, swim, or spend extended time in direct sunlight within 10 days after your procedure, consider rescheduling β your brows need to be protected during healing.
You may be more sensitive during your menstrual cycle. This isn't a reason to reschedule β just something to expect.
-
Resurfacing Treatments
Avoid aggressive resurfacing treatments around the eyes, such as:
β’ Deep chemical peels
β’ Laser resurfacing treatments
β’ Strong resurfacing procedures
The skin around the eyes should be fully healed and free of irritation before your appointment.
Lash Serums
Discontinue lash serums such as Latisse or GrandeLash at least 4β8 weeks prior to your appointment. These products can increase vascular activity and bleeding during the procedure. -
Prescription Retinoids
Discontinue prescription-strength retinoids around the brow area, including:
Tretinoin (Retin-A)
Tazarotene
Prescription adapalene
Other prescription resurfacing creams
These medications significantly increase skin cell turnover and sensitivity, which can affect pigment implantation.
-
OTC Retinoids & Resurfacing Products
Discontinue over-the-counter retinoids and resurfacing products around the brow area, including:
Retinol
Retinal / retinaldehyde
Adapalene (OTC)
Glycolic acid
Salicylic acid (AHAs / BHAs)
Exfoliating or resurfacing creams
These products can increase skin sensitivity and affect pigment retention.
Injectables
Allow at least 3 weeks between any injectable treatments and your Brow PMU appointment, including:
Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin (neurotoxins)
Dermal fillers in the brows, temples, or upper face
Neurotoxins temporarily alter muscle activity in the brow area. Fillers can shift tissue volume. Both need time to fully settle before accurate brow mapping is possible.
Skin Treatments
Avoid the following near the brow area:
Microneedling or RF microneedling
Laser treatments or IPL
Medium-to-deep chemical peels
These need to be fully healed before your appointment for both safety and optimal results.
Oral Antibiotics
If you have taken oral antibiotics (such as doxycycline), please wait 3β4 weeks after your final dose before your appointment. This allows your skin and immune system to fully normalize, ensuring the best possible pigment retention and healing.
-
Eye Area Treatments
Avoid treatments that may irritate or sensitize the eye area, such as:
β’ Facials near the eye area
β’ Dermaplaning around the eyes
β’ Exfoliating treatments near the lash line
Eye Conditions
If you are prone to eye infections, styes, or allergic reactions, please inform your technician in advance. -
Lash Extensions: Lash extensions must be completely removed prior to your appointment.
Hydration
Begin prioritizing hydration by drinking plenty of water. Healthy, calm skin heals more predictably.
Sun Exposure
Avoid excessive sun exposure and do not arrive with sunburn, especially around the eye area. -
Blood Thinners & Alcohol
Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning agents, including:
Aspirin
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
Naproxen
Fish oil
Vitamin E
Niacin
Turmeric
Ginger
Ginkgo biloba
These substances may increase bleeding during the procedure. Only discontinue prescribed medications under your doctor's supervision.
Activities
Limit exposure to:
Saunas
Steam rooms
Intense exercise
Activities that significantly increase circulation and sweating
-
Caffeine
Please avoid caffeine, including:
β’ Coffee
β’ Matcha or tea
β’ Energy drinks
β’ Pre-workout supplements
Caffeine increases circulation and sensitivity, which will lead to increased bleeding during the procedure. -
Caffeine
Avoid caffeine of any kind, including coffee, tea, matcha, and energy drinks.
Activity
Avoid intense workouts, sweating, or facial treatments the day of your appointment.
Medications
Do not take sedatives, stimulants, or pain relievers unless medically prescribed.
Contact Lenses
Do not wear contact lenses to your appointment. Bring glasses if needed.
Skin & Makeup
Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. Do not wear mascara, eyeliner, or lash glue residue. Lash extensions must be fully removed prior to your appointment. What to Bring
To enhance your comfort, WiFi is available and headphones are recommended so you can relax during your session. Feel free to bring cozy slippers and a blanket if you get cold easily!
Have a question?
Letβs take care of those eyes
Follow these instructions to ensure the best healed results. Proper aftercare protects your investment and gives you the beautiful, long-lasting outcome you came for.
Post Care
Right After Your Procedure
Your eyes may feel:
swollen
tender
slightly tight or watery
Swelling is normal and may be more noticeable the morning after your appointment. This typically subsides within 24β72 hours.
Your eyeliner will appear darker and more defined initially. As healing progresses, the color will soften.
To support healing:
avoid touching your eyes with unwashed hands
avoid rubbing or applying pressure
keep the area clean and protected
Initial Care:
Swelling and sensitivity are still normal during the first 48 hours. You may also notice mild tightness along the lash line.
During this stage, keeping the area clean without overexposing it to moisture is essential.
How To Cleanse Your Eyeliner
Begin by washing your hands thoroughly before touching the area.
Then, use room temperature bottled or filtered water to dampen a clean cotton pad.
Using the damp cotton pad, gently wipe along the lash line to remove any buildup.
Avoid:
rubbing or scrubbing the area
using cleansers, soaps, or skincare products directly on the eyes
saturating the area with excessive water
After cleansing:
gently pat the area dry with a clean tissue or towel
allow the area to remain clean and dry
A small amount of sensitivity during cleansing is normal. The area should never be aggressively rubbed or irritated.
Flaking Stage
DAYS 3-5: The treated area may begin to feel dry, and light flaking can occur. This is a normal part of the healing process.
Do not pick, rub, or scratch the area. Instead:
continue gentle cleansing as needed
allow flaking to occur naturally
avoid applying any makeup or skincare near the eyes
Premature removal of flakes can affect pigment retention and healing.
Post-Peel Healing
DAYS 3-5: Most flaking will be complete during this stage.
Your eyeliner may appear:
lighter than expected
slightly uneven
- This is temporary.
As the skin continues to heal, the pigment will gradually soften and settle into a more natural result.
Color Settling
WEEKS 2-6: Your eyeliner may go through a phase where the color appears softer or slightly faded.
As the skin regenerates, the pigment will gradually return and settle into the final healed result.
Final healed results are typically visible around 4β6 weeks, at which point your optional touch-up can refine the outcome if needed.
Protecting Your Results
Once your eyeliner is healed:
wear sunglasses to protect from sun exposure
remove eye makeup gently
avoid aggressive exfoliation near the eyes
Proper care helps maintain long-lasting results.
We want you to love your new liner and will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have following your procedure. We are so grateful to have you as a client! Enjoy your new beautiful eyeliner!
Please Note: Effects vary on different individuals, e.g. skin types that affect the attachment of color. Most clients will need 2 sessions; some will only need 1 and some will need a 3rd touch-up to complete the look. Failure to follow aftercare instructions may result in infections, pigment loss or discoloration. The supplies provided in the kit are enough to last through the initial session and touch-up. Should you run out before your touchup, a follow-up kit is available for $15.00.
